    Frequently asked questions

Will using the eligibility checker affect my credit score?

No, we’ll do a soft check that doesn’t affect your credit score.

      What is a soft check?

A soft check lets us know how likely you are to be accepted for a credit card before you apply, other lenders won't be able to see that we've completed this check.

What does the 'percentage approval chance' mean?

The percentage helps you understand how likely you are to be approved for a credit card.

If you have a high likelihood score, then it means you're more likely to be accepted. If you see a lower percentage, then it's less likely you'll be accepted at the moment.

If I get a high percentage approval score from this eligibility checker, does this mean I will be guaranteed to be accepted when I apply?

If you do apply, we’ll do a full credit search, which will show on your credit file, and a search of fraud prevention databases. There might still be a chance that we can’t offer you a credit card after we’ve done these checks.

Why have I received a 'Not Eligible' result?

There are several factors that could result in you not being eligible for a Credit Card. In some cases, it could be as simple as the information on the form not being filled out correctly. Other reasons might be that haven’t held your current job for long enough, or there isn’t enough information on your credit history.

Your Credit History is built up from past borrowing, such as other credit cards, mortgages, mobile phone contracts, and so on. If you haven’t had a credit card before, your credit history might be limited, in which case you may need to build your credit profile.

                What are representative rates?

We use representative rates when checking your eligibility for a Tesco Bank Credit Card. This means that the rates shown are only a guide, so you can easily compare products. When you apply, we may offer you a higher rate depending on your circumstances.
