Before you fly to the Czech Republic

Buying Koruna in advance

Exchange rates can go up and down every day, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the Pound to Koruna rate before you travel.

Our rate checker and travel money services also help you avoid buying Koruna at the last minute, when you’ll have less choice over rates, and our various buying and collection options mean you can get your currency in advance when and where you want it, meaning you can avoid stress and potential extra charges while in the Czech Republic.

Collect your Koruna in-store

Click & Collect lets you buy Czech Koruna online with Tesco Bank, then gives you the option to have it delivered to one of over 400 Tesco stores that offer the service. It’s quick, convenient and available when you’re ready to buy.

It’s worth remembering that exchange rates can go up or down throughout the day and can change whether you are buying online, in-store or over the phone.

Useful information about the Czech Republic and the Koruna (CZK)

Currency Denominations

  • Koruna comes in coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50
  • Koruna also comes in banknotes of 100 Kč, 200 Kč, 500 Kč, 1,000 Kč, 2,000 Kč, and 5,000 Kč
  • While the Euro is used in the Czech Republic, it’s not widely accepted and may have a weaker exchange rate

Spending and exchanging Koruna

  • Currency bureaux can be found in most banks across the Czech Republic, and many include currency exchange machines for quick use
  • Be cautious about street sellers who offer to exchange cash for you on the street, as they may offer you discontinued Koruna notes, or Hungarian Forints instead
  • Some currency bureaux may offer you “no-fee” withdrawals, but charges may be hidden by a lesser exchange rate. Check the actual rate online before you withdraw to see if you’re getting a good deal

Facts about Czech ATMs

  • ATMs are common across the Czech Republic, and you will typically be charged a withdrawal fee
  • Some ATMs may not tell you the fee upfront, so be aware of this when trying to take out your cash
  • Paying withdrawal fees in Koruna is an option at most ATMs, and this typically lowers the fee
