Important: a note about Tesco Bank payments
Before you dive into our guide, we wanted to let you know that this article is about how various forms of digital wallet payments work, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
What are digital wallets?
Digital wallets are a way to virtually store your Tesco Bank Credit Card on your phone and wearable devices.
They let you pay for things quickly using Apple Pay or Google Pay and save you having to carry cash or even your physical card.
How do I set up a digital wallet and use it to pay?
To set up a digital wallet, add your Tesco Bank Credit Card to the Wallet app on your Apple device or the Google Wallet app on your Android device.
You can use your digital wallet to pay anywhere you see the Apple Pay, Google Pay or Contactless logo.
Is it safe to pay with a digital wallet?
When you pay using a digital wallet, your actual card numbers are not shared, so your payment information stays safe.
If you use a digital wallet to pay in stores, no personal information is passed from your device to the card reader.
Will I still collect Clubcard points if I pay with a digital wallet?
Yes, you will. To get your usual Clubcard points and Clubcard Prices when shopping at Tesco, you’ll need to scan your Clubcard first, either on your app or your physical Clubcard, and then use your preferred digital wallet to receive your additional points.
What is digital wallet fraud and how can I protect myself from it?
When you add your card details to a digital wallet, your card provider will send you a one-time passcode by text or email to check it’s you.
Digital wallet fraud is where a fraudster registers someone else’s card details to a digital wallet app on the fraudster’s phone, then tricks the cardholder into sharing their one-time passcode. The fraudster can then use the digital wallet to spend with someone else’s card.
How to protect yourself
- Never share your one-time passcode with anyone else. Your card provider will never ask you to do this.
- If you ever receive an unexpected one-time passcode, contact your card provider right away.
- If you think you've been a victim of digital wallet fraud involving your Tesco Bank Credit Card, please contact us immediately.
