Contactless cards

No PIN. No hanging around. No fuss.

You've probably seen this symbol in shops and other places. It means you can pay for everyday items up to £45 in seconds - quickly and securely. All you need is your contactless Tesco Bank debit or credit card.

You can still pay with chip and PIN – it's up to you.

A new contactless limit became available in UK retailers from 1 April 2020. Tesco Bank customers with contactless cards can now use them for payments up to £45 anywhere the limit has been increased.

How to pay the effortless way

    • 1
Look for the contactless symbol when paying
    • 2
Simply touch your card against the reader
    • 3
A beep or green light shows your payment is being processed
    • 4
      Your payment is approved

    Is your contactless card safe?

As you can imagine, contactless payments come with a lot of strict security measures to keep your money safe.

You’re protected if your Tesco debit or credit card is lost, stolen or charged incorrectly. And you won’t have to pay if it’s used fraudulently. If anything like that happens, just make sure you contact us right away.

      How it works

      • Before you pay using contactless, the card reader has to be activated by the cashier
      • The payment is taken when you touch your contactless debit or credit card against the card reader.
      • And for extra security, you might sometimes be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN, or sign
