Your ATM questions answered:

How much money can I withdraw?

You can withdraw up to your card's daily allowance which is set by your card provider. Find out exactly how much you can withdraw that day by requesting a balance enquiry from our ATM.

You can see on-screen or via a receipt how much you have in your account and how much you can withdraw that day.

How much can I donate to a charity?

You could donate anything from £1 up to £300, depending on your account having sufficient funds, and the limit of your card which your card issuer has set.

Why does my ATM donation not qualify for Gift Aid?

Tesco and Tesco Bank supports charitable giving including offering customers the opportunity to make charitable donations via our ATM networks. Currently Gift Aid cannot be claimed on ATM donations across the UK. The UK Cash Machine Network, Link and HM Treasury are working together to provide the industry with a solution to this problem. This will ensure that charities get the full benefit of donations made at ATMs.

What happens if the machine swallows my card?

If this happens you'll need to contact your card issuer who will issue you with a new card and, if asked, investigate and tell you why your card was swallowed.

What happens if I key in the wrong PIN?

If you forget your PIN after you've inserted you card you can cancel the transaction and your card will be returned. You get three chances to correctly key in your PIN. After three unsuccessful attempts your PIN will be locked or your card could be swallowed. You should contact you card issuer to get a new card or to unlock your card before you can use it again.

What happens if the machine only gives me part of the cash I asked for?

If this happens you'll need to contact you card issuer to see if your account has been debited. If it has and the money is shown as withdrawn, your card issuer will make a claim on your behalf to return the money to your account.

What happens if I make a mistake with the amount I donate to a charity?

You must contact your card issuer if you have any dispute on the amount you donated.

What do I do if I see anything unusual about the cash machine?

If you see any suspicious devices do not touch or remove them. Please call the police or phone us on 0800 015 3199 straight away.

Can I change my PIN?

If your card has a chip you can change your PIN at any cash machine at Tesco - whether it's the PIN you chose when you first got your card or the PIN you were given by your card issuer. For security, the best way to choose a PIN is to avoid obvious sequences of numbers (e.g. 1234 or 6789 etc) or obvious numbers such as your date of birth. Instead, find a number that's memorable to you.

Can I top-up any mobile?

You can top-up any pay-as-you-go mobile phone from the following service providers: Orange, O2, Vodafone, T Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Tesco Mobile. As long as you know the number it's very easy:

  • insert your card and key in your PIN
  • select Mobile Phone Top-up
  • Select the network provider for the phone you wish to top-up
  • select your chosen top-up amount (from £10 to £50)
  • enter the mobile number you wish to top-up - twice to ensure the number is correct
  • The screen will confirm the top-up has been successful
  • A receipt will always be produced for your personal records with the top-up amount, date and last four digits of the mobile number.
