Tesco Bank Secure

Tesco Bank Secure provides an extra layer of security when making credit card purchases online.

Provided in association with 'Verified by Visa' and 'MasterCard® SecureCode™', it is part of the 3D Secure standard and helps protect your card against unauthorised use when you purchase from participating retailers.

How to Register

There are two ways to register:

  1. By visiting the Tesco Bank Secure website and choosing to register online
  2. When prompted to register during an online purchase. This is called 'Activation during Shopping'.

When you register you will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Your card number
  • Name embossed on card
  • Expiry date
  • Signature panel code (the last three digits on the back of your card)
  • Primary cardholder's date of birth
  • Primary cardholder's mother's maiden name

When you register you'll set up the following security details:

  • Personal Message - this is a unique message chosen by you that will be displayed every time you make a purchase from a participating retailer. You should ensure it is displayed before you enter your password - this helps you identify between a genuine request and a phishing request.
  • Password / SecureCode - this is a password chosen by you, which is used to confirm your purchases online, or to login to the Tesco Bank Secure website. At the end of the purchase process you'll be requested to enter 3 characters from it to confirm your purchase. We will never ask you to enter your password in full.
  • Login Name - this is a login name chosen by you that you'll use to access your Tesco Bank Secure account online, to view your recent purchases and update your personal details. Your login name will also be displayed at the end of the purchase process when you're asked to confirm your purchase.

How it works

When you use your credit card online at a participating retailer, a 'receipt' will appear at the end of the purchase process, displaying details of your purchase as well as your Login name and Personal Message. Check that the information is displayed before you enter the requested 3 characters from your password to complete the purchase. Your request will be processed immediately.

If you don't see your Personal Message or Login Name, don't enter any of your password information and contact us straightaway on 0845 671 0679. Remember, we will never ask for your full password online.
