Making payments online

From 1 January 2012 we're changing the way we make electronic transfers from your savings account to other accounts to provide a faster service. Payments will normally be made using the Faster Payments System, which enables money to be sent electronically within 2 hours.

A small number of accounts with other banks may be unable to accept Faster Payments. When you use Online Banking you'll only be able to transfer money to accounts that can accept Faster Payments. If the account you wish to send money to is unable to accept Faster Payments, we'll ask you to contact us by telephone and offer you alternative options for sending the money.

If you'd like to check if an account you are sending money to can receive Faster Payments, you can check online at www.ukpayments.org.uk/sort_code_checker/ which is a public website created by the Payments Council.

Fixed Rate Saver accounts

If you have a Fixed Rate Saver account you cannot move money out of your account before the end of your chosen term.

Moving money in and out of your Savings account online

Use Money In to move money into your savings account by:

  • setting up a regular payment from a linked account
  • making a one-off payment from a linked account
  • making a payment using your debit card

Use Money Out to move money out of your savings account by:

  • making a payment to a linked account
  • making a payment to someone else
  • paying a bill

Use Internal transfers to:

  • move money between your Tesco Bank accounts

Use Payment instructions to:

  • view, add, amend or delete any linked accounts or accounts you want to make payments to.

Linked accounts - money in and out
Linked accounts are other accounts held in your name outside of Tesco Bank. You can use these to move money in or out of your Tesco Bank Savings account. We can set up a Direct Debit instruction so you can make on-off or regular payments from your linked account, for example you current account, into your Tesco Bank Savings account. You can also use your linked account to move money out of your savings account.

Fixed Rate Saver accounts
If you have a Fixed Rate Saver account you cannot move money in and out of your account before the end of your chosen term.

A fresh look to your login screen

The way you access your accounts online has changed and your normal login screen looks different than before.

Accounts opened before 23 May 2011

You should continue to use your existing customer number and login details until we ask you to upgrade.

Accounts opened after 23 May 2011

You'll be asked to set up unique security information. You'll only need to do this once and you can then use these details to login when accessing your account.

For a short period of time, if you opened different accounts before and after 23 May, you'll have two sets of login details. Until we tell you otherwise you'll use your existing customer number to manage your existing accounts and your new unique ID to manage your new accounts.
