TrustDefender is different to anti-virus software in the following ways:

Secures your connection to Tesco Bank

TrustDefender can protect your Tesco Bank Online Banking session by only allowing approved internet traffic to Tesco Bank during your online session. This helps to provide significant protection against viruses and Trojans that could steal your identity or carry out fraud on your account.

If you would like to visit additional websites during your Online Banking session, you do have the option to "End Protection", but the TrustDefender protection of your current Online Banking session will end.

Identifies and alerts you to risks on your computer

TrustDefender quickly scans your computer to determine a number of things:

  • It will check if your operating system and antivirus software are up to date. If not, then TrustDefender will show you how to 'Fix It'.
  • It will check if you have a firewall and if it is switched on. If it isn't then it will show you how to 'Fix It'.
  • It will scan all active applications on your computer to ensure that they are not harmful. If there are any applications that TrustDefender has not yet identified as safe, it will notify you and verify the application which will take up to 48 hours. In the meantime it will recommend that you secure your connection while using Tesco Bank Online Banking.
  • It will notify you of any malware, spyware, or adware on your computer and show you how to 'Fix It'.

If you choose not to fix the problem immediately, you can click on 'OK' and continue your Tesco Bank Online Banking session, however TrustDefender will not always continue to protect you. We recommend that customers resolve the TrustDefender notification before they login.

Some TrustDefender notifications will suggest you enter a 'Safe and Secure' connection. This is an extra layer of protection that disables any potentially malicious software, permitting only safe software to run on your computer.

This will enable you to login to Online Banking until you have resolved the security risk identified by TrustDefender.
