When moving abroad with your cat you should try and avoid putting your cat into quarantine which lasts for six months and can be traumatic for you and your cat.
In many cases forward planning can eliminate the need for quarantine.
For an up to date list of the countries that have joined the pet travel scheme check the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs website. To be eligible, your cat has to meet ALL of the requirements of the scheme and it will have to travel via certain designated areas, rail and air routes. For further advice and help with taking your pet abroad, the PETS scheme and quarantine you can contact the address below or you could call a DEFRA advisor on the help line.
