Hydrogen vehicles use hydrogen as their fuel source - either in fuel cells or in combustion methods.
Because hydrogen is made up of water and oxygen, these vehicles produce almost no harmful emissions.
In 2003, George W. Bush announced plans to support further research initiatives into hydrogen fuel cell cars.
Hydrogen vehicles have been criticised, however, for using very high inputs to produce the fuel cells or combustion hydrogen. Some countries, such as Iceland and Denmark, are using renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen.
