Sick Kids Friends Foundation

Staff in our Edinburgh offices this year have chosen to support The Sick Kids Friends Foundation, a charity that supports the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

The hospital receives over 100,000 children through its doors each year and the charity assists by offering a wide range of extra comforts for children and their families to make their stay in hospital better.

In 2012 our staff in Edinburgh have pledged to raise £20,000 which will go towards the installation of new technology to improve treatment for children undergoing physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.

The 'Falling Cat' programme is an innovative piece of equipment which films children undergoing therapy and plays the film back to them simultaneously, along with music and virtual effects that aid movement whilst alleviating the boredom and discomfort that often comes with these types of treatment.

The money we raise will also purchase welcome gifts given to each child on their first night in hospital as well as reward gifts for children undergoing difficult treatment. These small gifts go a long way to combating stress and making children feel less daunted by their stay at the hospital.

Glasgow S.A.N.D.S

This year staff in our Glasgow office have chosen to support the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (S.A.N.D.S).

Every day in Scotland at least one baby dies. This means that almost 500 families each year are left devastated by this huge and often unexpected loss.

Glasgow S.A.N.D.S is committed to offering support to parents and families who suffer this tragic event by running support groups and carrying out research into still birth and neonatal death, to try and prevent families from suffering this type of loss in the future.

Our Glasgow based staff have committed to raising £20,000 for S.A.N.D.S which will fund memory boxes given to bereaved families. The boxes contain items such as a shawl, small soft toys, a trinket box and disposable camera, helping them to create treasured memories of their baby that will last a lifetime.

Toma Fund

This year staff in our Newcastle office have chosen to support Toma Fund, a new charity which supports children, young people and their families who have been affected by a diagnosis of childhood cancer.

The charity aims to provide grants which will fund much needed items of equipment for patients and financial assistance to families trying to cope with the difficulties of caring for a child undergoing cancer treatment.

They also take the children, young people and their families on 'treat days' in order to relieve the stresses of their treatment and help create lasting memories for the future.

Our Newcastle staff are committed to raising £20,000 which will pay for some of these treat days, as well as paying out grants for equipment and experiences that will go towards improving the lives of children and young people with cancer.

Financial Education Partnership

Last year we joined forces with the Financial Education Partnership (FEP) to run workshops in schools throughout Scotland teaching young people how to manage their money. We will use our skills, resources, and expertise to help improve the financial capability of our customers. This is a key priority for our customers, especially during the current economic climate. It is also vital to our success as a business that our customers are equipped with the ability to make informed financial decisions.

Staff at Tesco Bank are involved in the volunteering programme on a part time or ad hoc basis.

Tesco Bank targets 2011/12

Tesco Bank have committed to volunteering 125 hours of staff time in conjunction with the FEP, over the course of the year.
