What is Critical Illness cover?

To put it simply, Critical Illness is cover that can be added to a life insurance policy and pays out a lump sum if you’re diagnosed with a defined critical illness.

Important policy information

Life and Critical Illness cover pays out a lump sum if you either die or are diagnosed with a critical illness that meets the policy definition. We only cover 48 critical illnesses defined in the plan conditions and no others.

Conditions included in Critical Illness cover:

• Cancer - excluding less advanced cases
• Heart attack - of a specified severity
• Stroke - resulting in permanent symptoms
• Coma - resulting in permanent symptoms
• Dementia - permanent and irreversible
• Alzheimer's - or pre-senile dementia - before age 65 - resulting in permanent symptoms
• Parkinson's disease - before age 60 - resulting in permanent symptoms.

You must survive for 14 days after being diagnosed with a defined critical illness to be eligible for a lump sum payment.

Children's Critical Illness cover - your children are protected for £25,000 (or 50% of the sum assured if lower) if they're diagnosed with a critical illness as defined in the policy conditions (excluding Total and Permanent Disability)

There are a number of ways Critical Illness can be included with life policies, which may mean that life cover continues after a Critical Illness claim or that all cover ceases after a Critical Illness claim is made.
The value of the cash sum will be reduced by the effect of inflation.

If you cancel your policy at any time, you will not receive any money back.

Additional Terms and Conditions

• Clubcard number must be provided during application.
• One offer per policy. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.
• If you cancel your policy within the first 6 months we reserve the right to request a refund of the £30 Tesco Gift Card already given to you.
• The Tesco Gift Card will be posted (no duplicates will be sent) to the policyholder's address after three monthly payments have been made.
• This offer does not apply to the Tesco Over 50s Plan.
