Latest Online Banking changes
We've made some changes to the way you manage your Credit Card online. You’ll find information about these changes below. Our Business Credit Card help page also explains the changes we're making to our Business Credit Card.
Credit Card Security Upgrade
We've recently made some changes to Online Banking and the way you login. These changes mean that we may ask you to upgrade your Credit Card Online Banking security details.
Starting the credit card security upgrade
When you login to your Credit Card Online Banking, you may be asked to upgrade your security details. If we'd like you to do this, you'll see a screen with an option to UPGRADE NOW or to be reminded later.
Remember, we'll never send you an email asking you to upgrade your security details. If you think you've received a suspicious email, please send a copy to phishing@tescobank.com, and delete the email without replying.
Step 2 – Setting up new security details
Once you select ‘Upgrade Now’, you'll be asked to set up new security details, which includes setting up a new Username, Password and Security Number. We'll only ask you to do this once. To view a step-by-step guide of how to set up your new security details, please see our online demonstration.
To find out more about setting up new security details, you can:
- View our online demonstration which shows you how to change your credit card login details
- Read the information below – About your new security details
About your new security details:
If you set up new login details, we'll ask you to input and remember some new security details which include:
- Username
- Personal Image and Phrase that will be displayed each time you login
- Security Number
- Password
- Telephone security questions, which will be used if you ever need to phone us
Your image and phrase
We ask you to choose an image and phrase when you create your new security details. Once you login, we display your chosen image and phrase so you can be sure you're on the real Tesco Bank website. We do this as a security measure to help protect you from phishing.
When you create your new security details, we'll ask you to choose an image from a selection on screen and enter a short, memorable phrase of your choice.
Every time you login, you will be shown your chosen image and phrase.
If you don't recognise your image or phrase, or you're not sure, don't enter any of your security details and instead contact us immediately.
Recognising your computer
When you set up your new security details for Online Banking, we'll ask if we can ‘recognise’ the computer you're using. Recognising your computer is an extra level of security we use to confirm it's you logging in. You can ask us to recognise more than one computer (your home and work computers, for example) but you shouldn't ask us to recognise a shared or public computer (a computer in an internet café or a public library, for example).
If you try to login from a computer you haven't asked us to recognise, we'll need to identify you in a different way. To do this, we'll send a code by text message to your mobile phone which you can then enter on screen to login. This code is called a One Time Access Code, and you'll need one every time you try to login from a computer we don't recognise.
You can find out more here:

New payment details
The details for the Tesco Bank account you send your credit card payment to each month are changing.
The new sort code is: 400250
The new account number is: 31316044
What that means for you
If you pay your credit card bill by Direct Debit or Debit Card you don't need to do anything, we'll update the details for you. However, if you pay by transferring money from an online bank account or by Standing Order, we will need you to make some changes.
This is a gradual process, affecting a small number of customers at a time. We will write to you if we need you to make any changes and, don't worry, we’ll give you plenty of time to do so.
When we write to you we will ask you to do one of the following:
If you pay by online banking
You will need to login to your online banking account and update your payment details as follows:
- Enter new payee sort code: 400250
- Enter new payee account number: 31316044
- Check your 16-digit credit card number is entered correctly
When entering the account number or your 16-digit card number, please do not include any dashes or spaces.
If you pay by Standing Order or other bank transfers
You will need to contact your bank or building society and ask them to update your payment details as follows:
- New payee sort code: 400250
- New payee account number: 31316044
- Check your 16-digit credit card number is correct
When entering the account number or your 16-digit card number, please do not include any dashes or spaces.
Can I still use my credit card during the update process?
Yes. You can still use your credit card in the normal way to pay for things throughout the payment update process.

Setting up debit card details again
We've made some important changes to Online Banking recently. As part of the changes we'll ask you to set up your debit card details again when you log in to Online Banking.
We'll only ask you to do this once and your debit card details will then be stored so that you can make one-off payments as normal in the future.
